When in
such a rectangle, a square of equal length to the width of
the rectangle is drawn, the leftover rectangle is in the same
proportions than the initial rectangle. This division can
be repeated at will. Such construction defines a spiral as
shown hereunder:

This spiral is named equiangle (René Descartes), geometric
spiral, proportional spiral (Edmund Halley), or logarithmic
spiral (Jacques Bernoulli).
